Schoeps M221B/M934b, this vintage tube mic was recently rebuilt by Schoeps, including a NOS AC701 tube from Schoeps. Many consider the M221B to be one of the finest mics available for acoustic instruments, choirs, and orchestral instruments. With updated electronics, our M221B sounds better than ever!
-
AKG 480 (4), a CK61 cardioid pair and a CK62 omni pair, with A61 swivels, and A60M adapters for using the AKG 451 and BLUE capsules below. AKG 480s are excellent for classical and other acoustic instrument based recording. The 480 also is a terrific mic amp for the Blue Lollipop capsules. While the U47-type Blue B7 capsule sounds really nice on an AKG 451 body, the B7 is among the best vocal mics we've heard when it's mounted on a 480.
AKG 451E/EB (3), transformer-based SD mics, originals, not reissues. Capsules/accessories: A51 swivels (2); -10/-20 pads (4); factory-matched CK1/CK2 pairs; CK1S(card)-CK22(close omni)-CK5(vocal, 2)-CK8(shotgun); custom BLUE B7 Bottle Mic LD capsule (1) and BLUE "Lollipop" LD capsules (2). All also can be used with the A60M-equipped AKG 480s transformerless SD mics.
AKG D112 (kick) and D65 (2) dynamic mics
-
AT 4050 (2) multipattern condensers. Great all-around LD studio mics.
AT Pro25 (kick)
-
Beyer M88 classics (3) (one of the best dynamic mics)
-
B & K (DPA) 4060 (3) (top miniature omnis)
-
BLUE Blueberry, a LD vocal/instrument mic
BLUE premium lollipop capsule (Blue Bottle B7 capsule). Fits our AKG 451 & 480 bodies (480w/A60M adapter). The B7/480 has a big, classic tone that is superb for vocals. The B7/451 sounds great, too, when a transformer-based tone is desired.
BLUE B6 Lollipop Capsule Pair, fit our 451s and 480s like the B7. The B6's on 451s (or our 480s) have a similar tone to the Blueberry, but with more low end and they can sound bigger and smoother on many sources.
-
EV RE15 (2) (perhaps the *best* mic for isolating a source)
-
Neumann KM140 (3 excellent SD cardioids, including a stereo set)
Neumann TLM103 (LD vocal/instrument mic)
-
Shure SM57 (3)
Shure 315 vintage ribbon mic (fig8, updated by S. Sank). A bit noisy, but worth it for certain applications. Dick Gardiner of the Harmonicats told me it is the ONLY mic that he'd use to record harmonica. And he knows harmonicas!
